NEWS | Malone University presents "125 Years of Transforming Communities through Leadership, Entrepreneurship, the Arts, and Social Justice"

Malone University's Office of Alumni & Parent Relations presents "125 Years of Transforming Communities through Leadership, Entrepreneurship, the Arts, and Social Justice" with speakers Yvonne Brake, Keith Cureton, Blaine Griffin, Ron Robinson, Jr., Jason Lantz, and Suzi Lantz at 7 p.m. in the Johnson Center for Worship and the Fine Arts. Moderators are Jason Moyer, assistant professor of communication arts, and J.R. Rozko, A dessert reception will follow. The event is free and open to the public.

Join a conversation with outstanding Malone alumni whose vocational excellence provides a platform for advancing Kingdom reach and values. Come hear their stories of community transformation.

Whether attendees are just discovering their callings or are well-seasoned leaders,  students or parents, community leaders, youth pastors or just trying to serve their neighbors, all are welcome to explore practical and authentic ways to be a part of something bigger.

About the speakers:

Yvonne Brake ’98, works as the development director at Haven of Rest Ministries, Akron has worked at Haven of Rest Ministries, a Christian homeless shelter, for nearly 24 years. She has received multiple awards including the Women of Excellence Award from the Akron Black Women’s Leadership Caucus, the Friend of the Family Award from the Ohio Association of Family & Consumer Sciences, and the Black Woman of Excellence Award from the Summit County YWCA.
Keith Cureton ’85 , works as the vice president for Compliance & Ethics at UPS, in Atlanta, Georgia, has more than 30 years of experience in the transportation industry across multiple disciplines. He is responsible for oversight of domestic and international compliance and ethics programs, including the UPS Help line, Special Investigations, the UPS Code of Business Conduct, and the UPS Policy Book.
Cureton earned an MBA from Franklin University and a master's degree in project management from George Washington University. A frequent speaker on the subjects of compliance and ethics, change management, and enterprise risk management, Cureton chairs the ERM Initiative Advisory Board at North Carolina State University and is a founding member of the Atlanta Risk Council.

Blaine Griffin ’93, works as the executive director of the Cleveland Community Relations Board, and a member of the mayor’s cabinet.

Cleveland Mayor, Frank Jackson, credits Griffin – and Cleveland City police chief Calvin D. Williams – for Cleveland not erupting into violent riots as did Ferguson, Missouri or Baltimore, Maryland after 12-year-old Tamir Rice was shot in November of 2014.
Griffin has worked tirelessly to develop partnerships, policies, and programs to assist restored citizens (formerly incarcerated people) to successfully reenter the community.
Ron Robinson, Jr. ’06, works as a producer and mix engineer and director of creative and editorial and studio at Atlantic Records, in New York City, New York.
Robinson was studio director and assistant engineer for the Hamilton  Original Broadway Cast Recording that won the 2015 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album .
Robinson's productions have been featured in nationally televised commercials and his client list includes Skillet, Switchfoot, Coldplay, Jason Castro, Phil Collins, Cee Lo Green, Serena Ryder, Bruno Mars, Needtobreathe, Missy Elliott, and others.

Jason ’02 & Suzi ’00 Lantz work as the vision leader and GoCommunity Champion of RiverTree Christian Church.
The Lantzes founded Love Canton, a church of small churches, called Villages, sent to love people and make disciples of Jesus in Canton. Today, Jason is the vision leader of all of the RiverTree Christian Churches and Suzi is the GoCommunity Champion at RiverTree Jackson.

Last year, Jason and Suzi returned to speak in community worship. “We wanted to challenge students to look at their current view of what church is and their role within a local body,” Suzi said. “We believe that the church—the body of Christ—is God’s plan to bring love and hope to the world. We get to be part of that.”
