Cleveland Metroparks Edgewater Beach House now open

The opening of Cleveland Metroparks Edgewater Beach House marks a major milestone in the Park District's 100-year history, and is one in a series of projects along Cleveland Metroparks lakefront parks and beaches improving accessibility, amenities and quality of life in Northeast Ohio.

The 12,000 square-foot, two-story beach house provides increased connections to both the beach and Edgewater Park, as well as to nearby neighborhoods by directly connecting to the West 76th Street pedestrian tunnel via an elevated community connector. The scenic setting at the edge of Edgewater Beach also includes an open-air grove on the ground level with trees, sand, picnic tables and swings for enjoying views of the lake.

"William Stinchcomb, in his capacity as Chief Engineer of Parks for the City of Cleveland prior to his founding of the Cleveland Metroparks, planned and designed a bath house that stood at the base of Edgewater Beach for nearly 40 years. It is truly significant to open the fourth beach house in Edgewater Beach's history during Cleveland Metroparks centennial year," said Brian M. Zimmerman, Cleveland Metroparks CEO. "We are proud to provide an enhanced experience for our guests, and expand access to our lakefront."

Guests will take in stunning 360-degree views of Lake Erie, Downtown Cleveland and the nearby neighborhood, as well as enjoy a dual-sided outdoor fireplace, lounge seating and a seasonal full-service bar from the second-level open-air pavilion. Fresh, made to order food will be available from the beach house concessions located on the first level, including a menu featuring high quality, locally sourced ingredients. The Centennial Plaza, located on the ground level overlooking Edgewater Beach, will be utilized as a multifunctional space for special events, live music, gathering and enjoying spectacular views of our great lake.

"Extensive community feedback via numerous public meetings and online surveys informed both the unique design of the building and the amenities provided throughout the site," stated Cleveland Metroparks Chief Planning and Design Officer, Sean McDermott. Increased amenities include expanded restrooms with changing stalls, outdoor beach showers and foot wash stations and plaza seating areas.
