Approximately 100 Columbus-area youths to participate in fishing event

The Central Ohio Chapter of Muskies, Inc. will host its annual youth fishing event on Thursday, July 14 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Whetstone Park in Columbus.  Approximately 100 youths, who are participants in Columbus Recreation and Parks summer programs, are expected to attend this event.
The Central Ohio Chapter of Muskies, Inc. organizes this event, with the help of George Wilson of the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department, to coincide with a Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs (HOFNOD) program aimed at directing youths toward positive activities and away from drug use.

For some youths, Thursday’s event may be their first fishing experience.

Two ODNR Division of Wildlife Step-Outside grants helped purchased channel catfish to stock in the pond, buy fishing rods and food for the kids. Club members and corporate sponsor, Cabela’s, provided the remaining rod and reel combos for each participant in the HOFNOD program to use for future fishing trips.

This annual event is cooperation between the Central Ohio Chapter of Muskies, Inc., Cabela’s, the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department and ODNR Division of Wildlife. (ODNR)

Cheri Keaggy speaks during prayer breakfast

Dove Award winning recording artist and speaker Cheri Keaggy had the unique pleasure of serving as the keynote speaker at the Prayer Breakfast for the The National Propane Gas Association's 69th Southeastern Convention & International Propane Expo, which was held at the Music City Center in Nashville, Tennessee. Keaggy opened the program with a musical invocation as she sang the title cut from her latest CD, No Longer My Own. She then spoke to the gathering of high-energy industry leaders about the unlikely topic of their need for rest.

"I was excited at the opportunity to minister during the prayer breakfast for these leaders," Keaggy said. "I know how these conventions go. I've attended the equivalent in my own industry. It's all about networking, expansion, increased productivity, advanced technology, and spreading your message to the masses. Essentially...bigger, better, faster, more. After a great deal of prayer, I felt led to counter this emphasis by challenging them in the area of rest."

It is a subject that Keaggy confesses to be intimately acquainted with, having experienced firsthand the devastation of burn-out.  "I suspected that many of them, particularly at the end of an uber-packed week, were likely running on fumes," she says. (McCain and Co.)
