Ohio plans sales-tax holiday from Aug. 4-6
Submitted article
The Back-to-School Countdown is on! There are only 37 days of summer left before Columbus City Schools (CCS) students head back to class on August 23rd. And, that means back-to-school shopping for items that students will need in class.
To help ease the cost of buying school supplies and clothing, the State of Ohio is offering a three-day tax break the first weekend in August. The Sales Tax Holiday starts on Friday, August 4th and ends on Sunday, August 6th.
During the three-day period, the following items are exempt from sales and use tax:
* Clothing and footwear priced at $75 per item or less (including uniforms worn at several CCS schools);
* School supplies priced at $20 per item or less such as pens, pencils, scissors, and paper; and
* School instructional material priced at $20 per item or less such as books, workbooks and study guides.
* Families preparing to hit the stores for back-to-school purchases can find a list of suggested school supplies on their child’s school website, which can easily be found by downloading the CCS Mobile App or by logging on to www.ccsoh.us.
A complete list of eligible tax-exempt items can be found on the Ohio Department of Taxation’s Sales Tax Holiday Frequently Asked Questions web page, or by calling 1-800-304-3211.
