Reminder about changes to Northwest Ohio wildlife areas

ODNR

Users are reminded about annual changes which temporarily control access to portions of four northwest Ohio wildlife areas in order to provide quality hunting experiences for Ohio’s sportsmen and women, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR).

The ODNR Division of Wildlife will be controlling access to portions of the following wildlife areas:
-Magee Marsh Wildlife Area located in Oak Harbor,
*Note: The Sportsman’s Migratory Bird Center will remain open.
-Pickerel Creek Wildlife Area located in Vickery,
-Pipe Creek Wildlife Area located in Sandusky, and
-Old Woman Creek National Estuarine Research Reserve located in East Huron.

Dates can be found on the ODNR Division of Wildlife website at wildohio.gov, by using the search bar for each wildlife area. A complete list of Ohio’s wildlife areas can be found under the “Public Hunting, Fishing and Wildlife Viewing Areas” tab.

In addition, hunters should be aware that the Toussaint Wildlife Area, located about 5 miles north of Oak Harbor, is currently undergoing construction to upgrade water control structures and levees. These upgrades will provide better opportunities to manage the area for wetland habitat and is expected to be completed in approximately two years. During this timeframe, the wetland units will remain dry and will not be conducive for waterfowl hunting.
