OHIO: Election Day turns into big win for Republicans


Tuesday was a pivotal day for Ohio, with significant election results and other major developments shaping the future of the Buckeye State. 

In a historic U.S. Senate race, Republican Bernie Moreno unseated incumbent Sherrod Brown, signaling a shift in Ohio's political landscape. Voters also made a major decision on Issue 1, opting to keep map-making power in the hands of elected officials rather than a citizens' commission. Additionally, Republicans took all three Ohio Supreme Court races, strengthening their majority to 6-1. Former President Donald Trump secured Ohio for the third time, keeping him a favorite in the state. 

In sports, the College Football Playoff rankings stirred excitement as Oregon and Ohio State claimed the top two spots in the new 12-team format.

Ohio Republicans have tightened their grip on the Ohio Supreme Court from 4-3 to 6-1 by ousting two incumbent Democratic justices and winning a third, open seat, the Associated Press projects based on unofficial results.

Former President Donald Trump won Ohio for the third time Tuesday, according to projections by the Associated Press. Trump previously won the former swing state in both the 2016 and 2020 elections. Trump also finished the night close to winning the U.S. Presidency.
